The Festival of Lights has is always a source for Lyonnais surprise, emotion and wonder. She is illuminated when the banks of our rivers, our hills blanks, the facades of our buildings, parks, squares, gardens, streets and streets of our city. It is this magic that has yet acted last night when we had the opportunity to view a preview of the work performed Compost up by Patrice Warrener in honor or Bartholdi, the sublime and services of the lighting of the town of Lyon in the gardens of the Palais Saint-Pierre.
I am sure the magic will still go with a very fine edition, which this year starts on the evening of December 8: a symbol! Marian devotion in the beginning, December 8 was secularized, becoming over time a major public event bringing together in one movement the CL of all faiths, all backgrounds, from all walks. The Festival of Lights is also a festival attracting over 4 days and 4 nights millions of visitors worldwide, making Lyon a beacon in the world of urban lights.

"A feast copy ..."

This feast is exemplary in many areas. On the economic point of view first, where its budget is funded 50% by private actors together in a very active club partners. Besides, we must thank the partners that are historical Sonepar and EDF. Without them, this festival would be impossible to achieve. Copy also to the dynamism of our region since Lyon is at the center of the first region in France and 6th in Europe for the lighting industry. Our cluster light is widely recognized for its competitiveness. More than 300 companies representing more than 10,000 jobs and a turnover exceeding 1 billion euros wear our colors in this sector is constantly developing.

For these companies, the Festival of Lights is a showcase their skills, their creative power and innovation in lighting design or lighting areas. In these times of uncertainties related to economic and social difficulties, we understand the importance of this key sector for the dynamism and the future of our region as our country.

copy in environmental as well since the Festival of Lights is a pioneer in innovations, including using LED technology which allows very low energy consumption. For example, the electricity bill for all the light works downtown, was less than 3000 euros in 2008. In addition, for the second consecutive year, the event has partnered with Recylum , recycling specialist tubes and energy-saving lamps. It this organization that will ensure the ignition of the 11th edition of the Festival of Lights and allow further strengthen the commitment of Lyon and its region in the context of sustainable development.

" A ritual of agglomeration ... "

The Festival of Lights is also an issue of cultural identity, image, an opportunity live together for a metropolis. In a work that evokes " peaceful revolutions" in Lyon, I read that in a few years we have had the privilege metamorphose to see a ritual more than a century and see a new city ritual. With the author of this aphorism, I too believe that the Feast of Lights is a powerful signal of a metropolitan city in the process of inventing a 21st century urbanity. A city where you live, where we work, where you move differently. A changing city and launches into a new relationship to nature and the environment. A city that is laboratory approaches economic, social and intellectual different, promoting diversity and cultural intermingling.

The Festival of Lights is one of the finest examples of this movement that mobilizes the energies of our entire city and which carries a strong message of hope that our city in a more prosperous, more caring, more peaceful: yes, this is symbolized by the Festival of Light celebrating the beauty, emotions, the magic of the ephemeral ...

So all and all, I wish a great Festival of Lights 2010!
