Sabbath INTRODUCTION
1 Cor 10.31
We are almost in the middle of
year. So where are you with these
famous New Year's resolutions?
you know, the ones who talk about eating
better (less "junk", more fruit
and vegetables), exercise more (to
down their video games!) and take more
care of you?
The need to adopt
a healthy lifestyle is not only a good idea
.
It is amazing how many people
take these resolutions on January 1
to abandon them, say, 3
January if not sooner. But wait: the
need to adopt a healthy lifestyle
is not only a good idea, he
also part of God's will in our
regard.
I once heard someone say
"Children do not come to the world
with an instruction manual. "Well,
this is not true. The Bible has lots of
things to say about this chapter, as well as
on our food. In fact, God loves us
as he gave us instructions
specific about what to eat,
very first chapter of the Bible, Genesis
1.29: "On the whole surface of the earth,
I give you the plants that produce seeds
and trees bearing fruit
with pips or stones. Seeds or fruit
you serve food. "
From there, he appears quite specific
on what we should - and does
should not - eat. Thus, we
not guess What we plan latest

good food God offers us.

us to the point where he wants us

we eat can play on our health.

Gen 1.26-30; 7:1,2; 8.20, Lev 11;
Dt 14; Pr 23.19-21; Acts 10.1-28;
Rom 14.17, 1 Tim 4.1-5
The original plan (Gen 1.26-30)
The original scheme consisted
of cereals, fruits, nuts and vegetable1. It
appeared similar to that of Daniel and his companions
(Dan 1.11-15, 19, 20). A
growing number of nutritionists and scientists are now finding
a vegan diet
optimale2 produces health.
The Israelites were visibly
facing serious
withdrawal symptoms.
God allowed the survivors of the flood
to eat animals (Gen 9.3,4). The
Bible reveals the age of some biblical characters
before and after the flood. It
found that the addition of meat had to
significantly reduce longevity.
Before the flood, people reached
often 900 years. Methuselah went
to 969 years (Gen. 5.27, KJV). However,
Lamech lived only 595 years (Gen
5.32, KJV), and Abraham 175 years (Gen. 25.7,
KJV). And the days of David, the average life
tumbled to 70 years.
The vertical relationship
(Genesis 7:1,2; 8.20)
God told Noah to take into the ark
seven of every clean animal and a couple of
unclean animals. Shortly after
deluge, Noah sacrificed some animals
pure. This sacrifice was accepted by God. Although
that is not told in Genesis,
Leviticus 11 and Deuteronomy 14 confirm
that God only allowed the use of animals
pure. Just as God
accepted only clean animals for sacrifice,
man - if he wanted to include meat
in his regime - should that eating meat
pure. There is here an allusion
relationship between what we eat and
our relationship with God, perhaps a link
between the quality of our nutrition and quality
of our worship . The apostle Paul seems
support this idea in Romans 12:1 and 1 Corinthians
10.31.

terrestrial animals, those who
cloven hoof and chew the cud were considered as pure
. Sea creatures,
only those that had fins and scales
are safe for consumption.
God gave such guidelines
about the birds and winged insects.
Anyone eating unclean creatures
or touched the carcass was considered
as unclean. In Leviticus 11.43-46,
God says clearly quemanger
or touch what is unclean (unhygienic)
was unacceptable for a people belonging to
a holy God. Deuteronomy 14:21 forbade
a Jew to eat an animal
found dead, but the carcass could
be given or sold to a stranger for his
food. The people of God was made
hand and therefore holy. Thus, for

the Israelite, the choice of food was
an integral part of holiness.
Food versus heavenly delights
Egyptian (Ex 16)
It was not within God's plan that
children of Israel continue to eat meat
. Shortly after their departure from Egypt, he tried to
wean them by giving them the
manna, or "bread of heaven" as they
often called. However, the Israelites
were visibly struggling with serious
withdrawal symptoms ... In the end, God
allowed to continue eating meat.
A fly in the soup
theological (Rom 14.17, 1 Tim 4.1-5)
Some of the Jews of the early Church
were so legalistic as to the ceremonial laws
and beliefs of their own they wanted
impose their beliefs to new
believers. Often, the debate was
on foods allowed or prohibited. In
Romans 14:15-17 Paul advises those who
were more mature in their understanding
doctrinal questions not
judge those who were probably lower
in their development, but to focus
on "what is most important in
law" (Matthew 23:23, KJV). A similar case is
evident in 1 Timothy 4:1-5. Here, Paul describes
those who impose their hobbies other
as those who leave "the faith
follow deceiving spirits and teachings
inspired by demons" (v. 1).
An illustration to better understand
(Acts 10.1-28)
Some commentators consider
Peter's vision as a proof that God approves
consumption of meat
impure. Adoption of this vision,
however, would be a misinterpretation
text, the latter being only
simple illustration to help Peter
overcome his prejudice against Gentiles converted.
To date, the Gentiles were
considered unclean. Pierre understood.
If God is no respecter of person,
we should emulate.
Eat, drink and be merry?

warns us not to associate ourselves with
those who tend to indulge and
to intemperance in eating and drinking.

Ex 15.26, Lv 11.44,45;

In Leviticus 11, God gives his perspective
nutrition. The children of Israel were
walk, talk and eat as
that holy people. The Egyptian regime they had
for nearly 400 years included
many foods they were allowed.
Many Egyptologists have concluded that
high society ate more meat than
the poor class, which consumed
more fruits and vegetables.
A good thing can it be bad
extra bulk?
Numbers 11.4-34 shows the seriousness of
God about the link between food and spirituality
. "If God gave to Israel as a food
little calculated to ensure his physical wellbeing
was because he persisted
to demand it. ... he had to suffer the consequences.
... "The Lord smote the people

was pure, why did God hit
people of a wound? Perhaps because

point of losing sight of the Lord. Good thing
can it be bad in too much
quantity? According to God, it would appear so.
According to historians, when children
Israel finally reached the promised land,
their diet consisted mainly
in fruits and vegetables because they were
of their livestock livelihood. In general, they lulled
their animals in order
sacrifices or special occasions.
In Britain during the Second World War
, food rationing
made sure that people have reduced their consumption
fat, eggs,
meat and sugar. Today, studies show that
this type of diet reduces
risk of cancer, heart disease, and
autresmaladies dégénératives2. Cancer
is endemic in our society, and it increases
even in our Church.
Exodus 15:26 gives us a wonderful
example of how God will lavish His blessings
his children if they
keep his laws of nutrition. The Lord

This week, we saw the
link between food and an abundant life in the food code

eating meat after the flood.
And we saw that the diet influences
spiritual life. The path to healthy eating
requires planning,
perseverance, and patience.
Be patient. And even with

in this journey toward an abundant life.
